Join our team at Topeka, KS as a Plant Engineering Manager!

 

This position is responsible for oversight of the Engineering and IT departments for the facility. The primary accountabilities of the role include oversight capital projects, technology transfer, performance and reliability of plant technical systems, and corporate EOHS and Quality standards compliance.

Additionally the Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for handling the MRO (Materials, Repairs and Operating Supplies) program and for identifying other potential opportunities for margin improvement.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Functions as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team:
  1. Leads enrollment of the facility in the Topeka Plant Vision
  2. Provides resources to achieve plant strategy
  3. Ensures decision making processes are consistent with guiding principles
  4. Establishes clear direction and continuous improvement expectations for the plant
  5. Leads and supports change
  6. Provides effective career development and planning for direct reports
  • Develops and handles the overall facility capital budget and the facility maintenance budget.
  • Ensures that all engineering aspects of projects as well as associated documentation are in compliance with local, Hills / Colgate, legal and EOHS regulations.
  • Is responsible for the technical engineering team to promote teamwork and alignment across functions in order to meet or exceed plant key performance indicators (KPI). This team includes Controls Engineer, Project Engineers, Project Coordinator, contracted facilities management and contracted engineering and drafting.
  • Accountable for the preparation and management of the capital, IMS, and facilities expense budgets.
  • Responsible for Technical Staffing and Support needs of the plant.
  • Ensures training for newly implemented methods and systems to continuously improve technical skill level.
  • Coordinates with the EOHS manager to ensure contractors follow all guidelines for safety, quality and food sanitation.
  • Develops and maintains the plant capital plan and overall capital plan implementation.
  • Implements and maintains a plant technical document management system that addresses location, access, security, and creation of technical documents.
  • Leads all plant energy management and optimization projects.
  • Ensure appropriate EMO’s (Experimental Manufacturing Orders) are conducted to verify that process/equipment meets design specification and that personnel are trained appropriately.
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with CP/ Hills, local, state, and federal standards and guidelines related to EOHS, Quality, and Regulatory.
  • Drive the values and principles of managing with respect in all daily business affairs.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field
  • At least 8 years of manufacturing experience in Engineering, Project Management, Capital Projects.
  • Proven experience handling capital & departmental budgets.
  • Proven experience in management or supervisory role.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA.
  • Strong financial background in capital budgets and contractor negotiation.
  • Proven ability for attention to detail, strong work standards, and analytical/decision making.
  • Experience in EOHS, Quality, or Maintenance preferred.
  • Previous maintenance systems experience including AM/PM/TPM/Predictive Maintenance.
